Top 5 Communication Apps Performance in Kenya, Q2 2023

In the second quarter of 2023, the top 5 communication apps in Kenya displayed a variety of performance trends across weekly downloads, active users, and revenue, according to data from Sensor Tower.

WhatsApp Messenger had a fluctuating download pattern, peaking at approximately 214K in mid-April and then declining to around 65K by the end of June. Revenue for the app remained relatively stable, hovering around $3 to $8 weekly. Active users showed a steady increase from 11.5M at the end of March to about 11.9M by the end of June.

Opera Mini: Fast Web Browser experienced a decline in weekly downloads from around 120K at the beginning of the quarter to approximately 82K by the end of June. The number of active users saw an upward trend, starting at 1.6M in March and reaching around 1.7M by the end of June.

WhatsApp Business observed a gradual decrease in downloads, from nearly 89K at the end of March to around 50K by the end of June. Active users for the app grew steadily, from about 647K in late March to 710K by the end of June.

Snapchat saw a peak in downloads at around 67K in early May, which then declined to approximately 30K by the end of June. The app’s weekly revenue showed a consistent increase, reaching up to $474 by early June. Active users also increased, starting at about 1.54M in late March and rising to 1.76M by the end of June.

Telegram experienced stable download figures, fluctuating between 22K and 50K throughout the quarter. The app’s weekly revenue remained relatively stable, around $217 to $315. Active users showed a slight increase from 2.1M in late March to around 2.14M by the end of June.
